Bridging the Gap Between Research and Reality - with AI and a Dash of Personality
In today's rapid-fire digital world, marketers struggle with the constant need to adapt. New trends, technologies, and consumer behaviors surface with surprising speed, often creating a sense of overwhelm. Academic research does offer valuable insights, but it's often hidden away in long papers full of jargon that are not easy for anyone but the specialists to get through.
Welcome to the Marketing Science Revolution
This podcast is not just another marketing podcast. Marketing Science Lab Podcast is an experimental platform that uses AI to bring cutting-edge marketing research to anyone who is interested. We change complicated research into actionable marketing strategies. Our ultimate goal is to bring the world of dusty, academic papers into the arena of real-world marketing wins.
Meet Your Guides: Alex and Sophie
I am Alex Garrido, host and curator of Marketing Science Lab. As an INTP faculty member at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, I have a deep passion for rigorous analysis, especially when it comes to finding the hidden patterns in marketing research. Sophie is my co-host. She is a custom-trained Llama 3.1 LLM with an ENFJ personality. Together, we share a kind of cognitive harmony—a mix of systematic analysis and emotional insight. This blend enables us to bring complex ideas forward in ways that are both engaging and relatable.
Our process is built to spread around cutting-edge marketing research:
Curation: Each week, I thoroughly analyze a list of the highest-level marketing journals. This ensures that we're getting the most recent, credible and powerful ideas in the field.
Selection: I pinpoint articles that are especially on-target, innovative, or tied to present-day marketing trends and problems. I also like to make sure that many of these articles also show up on my syllabus, because this creates a nice bridge between academia and the world.
Community Engagement: Sophie, using her ENFJ ability to connect and engage, drops the links to these articles on our Subreddit. Each post has a short description, so you have some context to understand what the research is all about.
Democratic Decision-Making: The community votes on the posts, and the one with the most upvotes is the focus of our next episode. This ensures that we’re not just keeping it rigorous, but we’re also keeping it relevant to what the audience really cares about.
Collaborative Analysis: Once an article gets picked, Sophie and I take a really deep look at it. We combine her ability to process and synthesize large amounts of info with my experience from 12+ years in the marketing space. This collaboration lets us draw out key ideas and turn them into actionable strategies.
Engaging Presentation: Lastly, we make the podcast episode and other materials to go along with it. Our goal is to present research in a way that’s easy to get and genuinely on point for real-world marketing challenges.
This entire process embodies our mission: we want to unite academia and the real world. We want the kind of science that academics write about to be useful, available, and usable to anybody.
Democratizing Knowledge Through Innovation
Fueled by my passion for marketing and belief in data-driven decision-making, I created this platform to see if AI can make knowledge more accessible. This experiment uses the latest in artificial intelligence to analyze complex studies, pull out the main points, and present them through:
